FALLING FOR NEUTRALS

FALLING FOR NEUTRALS

OK, so for the past few months I’ve been slightly obsessed with pairing black and white with neutral tones. This obsession has influenced how I recently redecorated our family room, and I’m totally in love with it! This color scheme is also the theme for my brand new blog site, farrahromaine.com launching soon!! You heard it here first!

While I’ve always thought of myself as colorful, I’ve come to realize that my personal style doesn’t reflect this part of my personality. I love classic styles that have a little bit of edge to them. My favorite clothing is timeless, and can easily get an update by styling with accessories and shoes that are on trend. Black and white’s gonna be poppin’ again this season, and I plan on giving it an update with graphic prints in stripe, gingham, and my fave dark florals.

It’s Spring, AKA trench weather. I love a classic trench, and this one’s a softened up version of military chic.

Take this look from day to night by adding a poppy red lip, letting your hair down and switching up a few accessories!

What are you obsessed about this Spring?

A REFRESHED SPRING WARDROBE

A REFRESHED SPRING WARDROBE

This past weekend I spent quite a bit of time getting a jump start on my Spring cleaning. I started in the most obvious place…my closet! I got rid of ELEVEN pairs of shoes, plus sweaters, dresses and blouses that were just clutter preventing me from seeing a few treasures hiding in plain sight.

As temps slowly head north, my excitement for dressing for the upcoming season, and enjoying the outdoors is building in momentum. There are so many fun, flirty, fearless options to express yourself, thanks to the bold accessories trends on the horizon. I’ll be doing an upcoming post on this so stay tuned. In the meantime, try these tips to de-clutter your closet to get the most fashionable wear out of your wardrobe now.

1. Be Ruthless
I mean it! If you don’t love it, haven’t worn it in the past six months, or can’t see yourself wearing it any time soon, toss it. Goodwill donations are tax deductible. Plus that top/dress/jacket will be better appreciated by someone actually wearing it.

2. Get It Together
Confession: I’m a little nutty when it comes to organization. My life’s motto is “there’s a place for everything, and everything in its place”. So, of course, this part was fun for me! However, if cataloging and organizing aren’t your thing, here’s how I got it together:

i. Divvy clothes in sections. I chose three sections: dresses and skirts, tops, pants.

ii. Organize each section by color and length. Visually, this is the most appealing to me. If sorting each section by type only (example: tops organized by tanks, dress shirts, jackets) works better for you, do that! The idea is to organize according to what works best for your lifestyle.

iii. Shoes. Can’t forget about shoes! The shoes I’m wearing the most often for the season are usually more accessible. The rest are categorized by type.

3. Have Fun With It
Now that you’ve de-cluttered and are organized, have some fun! Look through your “new” wardrobe to discover fresh styling options you couldn’t see before, preferably with a glass of wine and music. Play dress-up, or outfit plan for the week ahead. This is also where you’ll spot deficiencies in your wardrobe so you can be more purposeful on future shopping trips.

MY FIRST FASHION WEEK EVENT!

MY FIRST FASHION WEEK EVENT!

DC Fashion Week 2018 is over and it did not disappoint! Five days of fashion forward events, including industry networking parties and showcases, culminated into an amazing night at the 28th International Couture Collections runway show. The fashions were bold and showstopping, and each designer had a distinct message to give. If you follow me on Instagram (@farrahromaine), you too kind of got a front row seat to the show if you saw my stories! I met some really cool people at the networking party on Thursday and enjoyed the showcase by some of DC’s emerging designers, including from my alma mater Morgan State University. It was refreshing to see such a vibrant, dynamic, hip fashion scene right here in the nation’s capital! For the runway show on Sunday, I wanted to BRING IT, and it was so much fun outfit planning for this event. This is what I came up with!

ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION NOW!

ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION NOW!

Take a good look in the mirror. I’m not being literal here. But seriously, take some time to reflect on your life, as you live it day in and day out. Think about the actions you take, and what you give energy to. Are they in line with your 2018 goals? Will they help you live your best life?

It’s almost two full months into the New Year, and I’m finding myself settling back into old ways. I don’t mean being lazy or unfocused with my aspirations. What I mean is not being mindful…of what I feed my mind with, and what I allow to TAKE from me! I’ve decided to reset. Today! Because you don’t need a New Year to start over. For me to live my best life, there are three things I need:

1. To be connected with family and friends – A real connection where we know what’s going on in each other’s lives and make time to hang out together. Since I became a mommy to twin boys, the little tykes have pretty much taken over my life. But as they continue to grow, I’ll be making more time for the people that are truly important to me.

2. To take care of my body – Diet and exercise are lifestyle changes that I have been committed to for some time. Feeding my mind with positivity and blocking bad energy are just as important as being physically healthy.

3. To fearlessly pursue my dreams – This pretty much speaks for itself!

I’m challenging you today, as I will do each day, to ask one simple question: will the actions I take today help me live my best life? Let that answer guide the steps you take!

VALENTINE’S DAY SLAY

VALENTINE’S DAY SLAY

It’s officially the month of LOVE! And what’s not to love? Fashion Week kicks off in February and I can’t wait to attend the events for DC Fashion Week at the end of the month. I’m also looking forward to Valentine’s Day, the biggest date night of the year! My hubby usually makes a big to-do about our date and has dinner reservations in the bag months in advance. I know, I’m a lucky girl! The only thing left for me to do is figure out what to wear.

Go for bold red this Valentine’s Day and interesting accessories that are conversational pieces, like this Telephone Love Crossbody Clutch

TREND ALERT: Balancing bold reds with blush hues adds interest and works very well together. And don’t forget to add some texture for a pulled together look!
