EVERY SPRING DRESS YOU NEED TO WEAR NOW

EVERY SPRING DRESS YOU NEED TO WEAR NOW

Every couple of weeks or so we seem to be getting little glimpses of Spring. And I’m so here for it! I’m ready to ditch my heavy Winter wear for breezy, Spring dresses in the prettiest prints and blooms. I’ve been checking out my trusty online shopping spots for dresses that’ll give my wardrobe a Spring refresh for the upcoming season, and I’m sharing my faves for you to shop. Just in time to flex that tax refund muscle!

DOTTED DRESSES
The polka dot is my favorite of the spotted prints, and they are making another comeback this season. But no discrimination allowed, all dots are created equal!

Flowy V-Neck, Red Polka Dot Mini, Spotted Midi, Belted Midi, Pink Polka Printed, Ruched Polka Dot Maxi

SPRING NEUTRALS
Earth tones, from cream to khaki, are essential for lighting up your look for Spring. This time, why not consider updated neutrals in animal print?

Belted Utility Dress, Pleated Snake Skin Print, Pointelle Dress, Zebra Printed Midi, Ruched Snake Print, Linen Blend Dress, Cowl Slipdress

SHOP MY LOOK

Ruched Mini Dress, Circle Drop Earrings, Biker Jacket, Mini Faux Fur Shopper Tote, Over The Knee Suede Boots

I found this pretty floral printed number last month while shopping for an outfit for a blogger event. There’s so much to love about it! The pastel blue and ruching detail throughout just screamed “hello Spring” to me.

TIERED DRESSES
Flowy ruffles and voluminous tiers allow you to be as fancy (or playful) as you wanna be.

One Shoulder Tiered Midi, Tiered Trapeze Mini, Spot Tiered Dress, Floral Print Dress, Asymmetrical Ruffle Midi

MELLOW YELLOW TO NEON BRIGHT
There really isn’t anything mellow about this hue that captured my attention (and heart) last Summer. My favorite silhouettes are flowy and mid to floor length. Neon is in this Spring/Summer too. You’ll be seeing it everywhere, I promise!

Wrap Front Snake Print, Plunge Satin Midi, Scarf Neck Maxi, Cami Sweater Maxi, Bardot Wrap Midi, Satin Slip Dress

PRETTY PRINTS
My fave prints this season are skewing animal, but I love a good petal print for Spring. Check these out!

Ruched Satin Midi, Collared Leopard Midi, Calf Length Leopard, Burgundy Floral, Neon Printed Slip Dress, Giraffe Print Shirtdress

I’m sure these pretty dresses have got you all excited for the sunny season! Temps are still a little chilly on my side of the country, so layering is key to stay warm and cute until Summer. Try these layering tips:

1. Add a turtleneck or long sleeve bodysuit underneath your dress for added warmth.
2. Tights keep your legs warm while wearing dresses in thinner fabrics. Try ditching over-the-knee boots for mules or chunky heeled sandals.
3. Double duty your biker shorts to act as thermals under midi or knee length dresses.
4. Blazers are appropriate for Spring too. Try one in a pastel hue, or go for bold in neon.

TOP TEN 2018

TOP TEN 2018

2018’s almost a wrap! Whatever your plans/goals/resolutions were, I hope you were able to crush them in fearless style! This was a big year for me. I started this blog, my family settled into our new home, I saw my twin babies (now four year old boys, ahhh!) reach many milestones, AND I still managed to grow my online accessories shop! Of course, there were challenges; many high highs, and low lows. Wanna know the best part? It’s my personal growth from trusting my gut, taking a leap, and committing to doing the thing I’m passionate about, especially in those moments that didn’t feel quite so ‘sexy’.

I already have big plans for 2019. “Level Up” is the theme I’ve chosen for the year. I’m putting it out in the universe to force myself to be accountable. I think I’ll check this post in six months to gauge my progress!

I’ve been taking a look back at some of the most memorable moments in 2018 (the ones that gave me goosebumps), and I’m sharing my top ten:

1. Boo’d Up by Ella Mai. It’s arguably the official song of 2018, and the one that got the most play in my iTunes library.

2. The Royal Wedding of Meghan and Prince Harry was a fairytale come true! Their union bucked centuries old traditions, and The Duchess became the first woman of color in the British royal family. I wrote all about it here.

3. A Savage runway. Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty runway show celebrated all women like none I have ever seen. Her muse, Slick Woods, literally left the runway to give birth!

4. Speaking of fashion, the industry made strides this year to be more inclusive/diverse (Virgil Abloh at Louis Vuitton, Dapper Dan x Gucci, Edward Enninful/British Vogue) , but there’s still more work to be done.

5. Just Do It! Nike showed us what modern corporate social activism looks like by doing an ad campaign starring Colin Kaepernick. It paid off!

6. The Me Too Movement became a force to be reckoned with. Women started speaking up against sexual assault and harassment, and powerful men are paying for their misconduct.

7. Christine Blasey Ford.

8. We rocked the vote! The 2018 midterm election was a historical one with record voter turnout. 49% of eligible voters (113 million) showed up at the polls to let our voices be heard.

9. The Black Panther was more than just the best selling movie of 2018, it was a movement! And it’s the only film I’ve gone to see twice at the theater!

10. Hollywood creative geniuses like Ava Duvernay, Ryan Coogler, Jordan Peele, and Issa Rae continued to show the world what we already knew…our stories are marketable, and black and brown acting leads can (and do) sell out box offices.

THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

In the spirit of Christmas, I’ve decided to share a few of my fashionable faves in this post. Let’s dig in!

1. STATEMENT EYEWEAR

Sunnies and clear lenses have always been my go-to accessories, there’s no denying that. They’re such an easy and effortless way to add polish to an outfit, or to differentiate yourself from the crowd. In the Winter months we put away so many of our accessories in favor of outerwear and boots, but eyewear transitions from season to season. These standouts are a few of my faves:

Flared Visor, Hindsight Square, Pared Cat Eye, Chanel Shield, Crawford Tort, Gucci Square, Oliver Peoples

2. THE PERFECT TOPPERS
Thankfully, I’ve always had a good head for hats! I fell in love with this plush faux fur cabby hat the minute I laid my hands on it at the Forever21 store in Bethesda. It has a great ’90’s vibe going that I’m really into now. Plus it keeps my “thinker” warm and cozy. Fashionable and functional!

Western details were all over the runways earlier this year for the Autumn/Winter shows, and it’s been pretty hard to miss on the street (saddle bags, denim, the COWBOY BOOT!). This isn’t a trend I plan on investing too heavily in (it’s just not my aesthetic), but I love a good cowboy hat. The hat below is new in my online shop, Couture Diva. It’s not exactly a cowboy hat, but it has enough Western details that paired with a printed scarf and waist cinching belt, I’d be able to rock the trend without the expensive investment.

3. MISMATCHED EARRINGS
I don’t know what it is about this trend, but I’m really in love with it. The trend is a couple of seasons old, but what’s attracting me to it now is the playful, unexpected, funk factor it adds to my ensembles! Not sure how you’d pull it off? While there aren’t any hard and fast rules, the trick is symmetry. And a full length mirror! I hold the mismatched pair up to my ears (after I’m fully dressed), and allow my eye to determine if it will work for my style.

Have some fun creating mismatched pairs with these trendy baubles:

Gwyet Green, Flomiyu Floral, Clackamas, Key Drop, Hexagon Hoop, Wywen, Gwililla

THE LOOK

Check Wide Leg Trousers, Thrifted ‘Security’ Raincoat, Mock Turtleneck Sweatshirt (similar), Faux Fur Cabby Hat, Bee Mine Pearl Studded Handbag (Sold Out), Oversized Clear Lens (Old), Adidas Sneakers, Interlaced Earrings

4. OUTERWEAR IN BOLD COLORS
Winter and bold colors don’t typically go hand in hand. It’s unexpected, and that’s why I love it. This oversized bright yellow “Security” raincoat was thrifted (and new) from one of the local Goodwill stores in my neighborhood, but here are a few colorful coats you might like too.

Teddy Bomber, Faux Fur, Animal Print Puffer, Double Faced Fur, Vinyl Puffer, Velvet Frock Coat, Leopard Print Mac, Flock Chain Puffer, Brushed Wool, Longline Check

What are some of your favorite things? Did any of mine make your list this year?

YOUR HOLIDAY PARTY OUTFIT GUIDE

YOUR HOLIDAY PARTY OUTFIT GUIDE

We’re in the festive season y’all! Cue the twinkling lights and Mariah Carey’s Christmas album, I’m ready! My tree is already up too. The only thing left to roll in are all the holiday party invites, and I’m prepping myself for them. Now, I don’t plan on breaking the bank on outfits this year (I reserved that vice for gift shopping). Instead I’m adding a few on trend, festive pieces that I can incorporate into my wardrobe for multiple fresh, party-polished looks.

THE LOOK
Vintage Tweed Blazer, Floral Lace Midi Dress, Velvet Leggings, Vintage Beaded Pouch Purse (similar), Caged Heel Sandals (old, try this pair)

Need some help picking the perfect party’fits for the Holidays? Try these tips:

1. Add an eye catching blazer over an LBD (Little Black Dress), slip dress, or pleated skirt.

Floral Printed, Velvet Checked, Long Houndstooth, Bonded Velvet

2. Layer with lace. I know, this is an unexpected fabric to wear during the Winter, but that’s what’s great about it. Try layering it over top leggings, or a button down shirt for extra texture and volume to your look.

Lace Shirt Dress, Lace Trim Slip Dress, Victorian Blouse, Sheer Lace Bodysuit

3. Top it off with a pretty little purse.

Beaded purses were all the rage this Summer. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still rock them in colder temps. My beaded pouch purse above is one of my latest vintage finds from the cutest shop JuJu’s Vintage in Chicago.

Tip: If you can’t find a pretty little beaded number, go for anything textured. Think pearl studded, sequined, or velvet.

Velvet Bead Bag, Two Tone Beaded Bag, Sequined Bucket Bag, Pearl Studded Bucket Bag

FESTIVE SWEATERS

FESTIVE SWEATERS

‘Tis the season for festive sweaters! I love seeing rich, bold colors stand out against the drab, and sometimes snowy, landscape characteristic of the Winter months. There’s something so unexpected about that bright pop of color that livens me up, and gets me even more excited about the upcoming Christmas holidays. Now, a festive sweater doesn’t necessarily mean an “ugly sweater”. There are lots of stylish options you’ll actually want to wear this holiday season, and I already have my eye on a few!

This wool turtleneck is a vintage Pierre Cardin I picked up on a recent trip to Chicago. I love the color blocking (in my favorite colors too), and the balloon sleeve just cinches it for me! The perfect festive sweaters are shimmery (read sequin or tinsel), in bright hues, and rich in whimsical details. Here are a few on my wishlist you might also consider getting. What do you think of these?

sweater with bow, sweater with heart beading, snoopy jacquard sweater, sequin argyle sweater, crocheted fruits sweater, textured tinsel sweater

OR

Kick it up a dressier notch with these sequined “baddies”!

gold sequin sweater, sequin confetti sweater, sequin diamond sweater, floral sequin sweater

My favorite way to style a festive sweater is layered over top a midi dress or pleated skirt, with an ankle boot. Try these styles to complete the look.

snakeskin cowboy boots, lion buckle belt, bow stud earrings, high ankle cuff boot, asymmetrical shell earrings, print pleated skirt, textured link necklace, red embossed ankle boot, leopard maxi, textured translucent earrings, geometric print tunic, belted plaid skirt

IT’S ALL LOVE

IT’S ALL LOVE

This past weekend our country experienced a grotesque display of hate with news of the synagogue slaughter in Pittsburgh. Sadly, these images are becoming far too commonplace, and almost accepted (it seems) as just part of life here in America. I miss the messages of hope and love, and the desire for people to work together in the best way to make our lives all better.

There’s so much negativity in the media, and all around us really, so I’m taking some time to focus on what I love and brings me joy. It’s almost been a year since I started blogging consistently, and I’m so happy that I took the leap to create this space to share my life and love of style. I have met so many wonderful women in the process, and have been inspired by boss babes from all over the world.

I shot this look a couple of weekends ago in Silver Spring, Maryland. It was unusually warm (low 70’s), and likely my last outdoor photoshoot for the season. Fanny packs and belt bags are favorites of mine this season. Bulky extra layers of clothing tend to cause my bag straps to slip, but no worries here! I’m also loving the pop of color.

Did you catch my last post about my winter white shoe obsession? I got this pair of western inspired studded mules this past Spring. It’s a little scuffed up because it gets a lot of wear!

Details on where to shop my look below:

Life is too short not to enjoy the things we love. I want to continue to use this platform to celebrate fearless living in style, and I hope that it serves as a source of inspiration! Don’t let a moment, thought, or doubt stop you from pursuing joy. Live, and love every moment of it!
