The year will come to a close in just a few short weeks. Wow, where did the time go?! Before we get into the rush of the holiday season, I’ve been allowing myself some time to reflect on my year so far, and what lies ahead.

For me, there’s so much (mentally) that goes into goal setting and preparing for a new year. Admittedly, this doesn’t usually happen until January. But 2019’s going to be a milestone year for me. I’m turning forty, and I want it to truly be a milestone in every sense of the word!

Like most people, I tend to procrastinate a bit, especially if it’s to do something not so fun, or something that challenges me. I remember very clearly that my junior year in undergrad was squandered! Not that it was too challenging, but having fun was, well, more fun! I’m grateful to my professors who allowed me to finish the year with an “incomplete”. That was enough of a wake up call! I was determined to get my degree in four years, so I took classes in both Summer sessions, then twenty-two credits each semester in my Senior year. I did all of this while working part-time, and holding an office (secretary) at my college’s Finance Club. That was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do, and I learned from this experience never to set myself so far back I’d have such a tough time catching up!

I’m getting an early start this time around by doing these four things now to get ready for the new year:

1. TAKE STOCK & FINISH STRONG
Most people make New Year’s resolutions, or set goals as I prefer to say, but not many follow up throughout the year to check on their progress or reassess goals. I’m doing this now, and with only a couple of months left in the year, I’m evaluating whether what’s not yet accomplished is worth pursuing now. I’m also giving myself credit for the goals I met so far. As women, we don’t do this often enough, but this is absolutely important.

2. START A WINTER REGIMEN
It’s tempting to hibernate in the Winter, I’m guilty of it! The season can be harsh, especially if you have tropical blood flowing through your veins, like me. I’m focusing on updating two of my self-care regimens: beauty and fitness. I am collaborating with some fabulous ladies to bring you more on this, so this is all I’m going to say about this for now. Stay tuned!

3. BUDGET, BUDGET, BUDGET!
You can’t get wealthy without a plan, right! I’m working on creating a realistic, and comprehensive budget that will allow me to track my personal and business finances, and help me stay on target. There are quite a few free online tools I’m checking out now to determine which will work best for me.

4. HOLIDAY PLANNING
My husband and I are really looking forward to a very Merry Christmas. Last year was our first Christmas in our house and we weren’t quite as prepared as we wanted. We’re already starting to budget for Christmas gifts, and making plans for any festivities we want to attend, or host.

Are you doing anything differently to prepare for the New Year? Any “pre-game” rituals you’d like to share? Drop a comment below, I want to hear from you!
